What Is Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral palsy is a group of permanent movement disorders that appear in early childhood. It affects muscle coordination and body movement, often caused by damage to the developing brain before or during birth. Symptoms of cerebral palsy vary depending on the type and severity of the condition but may include impaired movement, muscle stiffness, poor coordination, tremors, and speech difficulties.

OUR AIM

Since our inception as an educational institution in 1968, we have expanded to offer vocational courses, enabling our students to gain both education and employment, thereby imbuing their lives with purpose and value. Our goal is to change PDAs' life path from one of helplessness to self-reliance. Have been working tirelessly in the field of Educational, Theraputic services, Social and Economic rehabilitation by creating a platform for cerebral palsy and multi-disabled over the years.

Our teachings extend beyond the classroom, with outdoor activities that enrich the outlook and approach of our students which reflected positively in many beneficiaries and their families. Our comprehensive approach ensures that both students and their families receive the necessary support to thrive.

Serves over 250 students, addressing their educational, vocational and recreational training needs through our varieng centres. Works earnestly to ensure equal opportunities and support to all students, fostering an inclusive and empowering environment where everyone can achieve their full potential without any discrimination of sex, class, or creed.

Who We Are

History and Background

The late Dr. N.H. Wadia was a prominent figure in the field of neurology who also received the Padma Bhushan award, and late Dr. V. Kini, whose daughter was a PDA, founded the Cerebral Palsy Association of India in the year 1968 to provide support for several other individuals like her. CPAI is a 50+ year old NGO which dedicates its efforts towards providing optimal care and seeking rehabilitation of individuals afflicted with Cerebral Palsy & Multiple Disabilities.

Organization and Philosophy

Around the world people with disabilities face physical, social, economic and attitudinal barriers that exclude them from participating fully and effectively as equal members of society. They are disproportionately represented among the world’s poorest and lack equal access to basic resources, such as education, employment, healthcare and social and legal support systems. In spite of this situation, disability has remained largely invisible and precious little has been done to elevate this particular section of society and even more so in India. We have pledged to provide an engaged and secure life for adults afflicted with multiple disabilities. Our motto is to nurture inclusivity by three pronged ACT – Approach, Appeal, Communicate & Take Action.
